About the Department of Radio-Oncology
The Department of Radio-Oncology in KDH engages in effective and safe radiotherapy using the latest equipment and specialists. Radiotherapy is safe even for patients who are old or have other diseases and doesn’t cause pain during the application. Radiotherapy has been applied to most tumors with the technical development of radiotherapy.
In particular, the Department of Radio-Oncology introduced the ‘Versa HD APEX’, the state-of-art radiotherapy equipment, for the first time in Korea and progressively applied advanced radiotherapy techniques to patients, including image-guided radiation therapy and intensity-modulated radiation therapy. Versa HD APEX helps treat cancer in almost all parts of a body, including brain tumors, intestinal cancers (including lung, digestive organ, and liver cancers), head and neck cancer, and hematologic tumors. The Department of Radio-Oncology maximizes the therapy results by accurately targeting and irradiating tumors.

KDH is progressively treating cancers in the best way in Korea by introducing Versa HD APEX, the latest ultra-precision treatment system among existing external radiation systems.
- Reducing the treatment time by two thirds, treating tumors at the fastest rate among the existing linear accelerators in Korea.
- Distinguished effects in radiosurgery, removing tumors in the shortest time using spot high dose radiation.
- Safer and more effective therapy by IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy)
- Optimum image-guided radiation therapy, accurately identifying the locations and status of tumors by 4D cone-beam CT scanning.
- Ultra-precision radiotherapy, identifying spot location error, which may occur during treatment in real-time.
Precision prevents damage of normal tissues around tumors using a compact multileaf collimator (irradiation dose controller).
- Effective in treating all kinds of tumors, especially ‘moving cancers’ that change location due to breathing.
* Moving cancers: a variety of digestive organ cancers, including lung, liver, and pancreatic cancers.
