The Department of Surgery in KDH provides comprehensive patient care service after surgical operations and diagnoses and surgical treatment against diseases. In addition, the Department of Surgery conducts surgical treatment on digestive organs in the abdomen, breast, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, head and neck cancer, varicose veins, and organ transplants.

The Department of Surgery successfully completed the liver transplant for the oldest patient and a pancreas transplant and kidney transplant with blood type incompatibility for the first time in Korea. KDH has an internal organ transplant success rate of over 95%. With the successful transplant of both liver and pancreas of an adult patient at the same time and a liver transplant of a 15-month-old patient, the Department of Surgery is recognized as the fourth medical institution which can transplant multiple organs, including the liver and pancreas as well as kidneys in Korea. Moreover, KDH secured its position as the local representative hospital, actively implementing hundreds of surgical operations per year, including those for injuries, hemorrhoids, and laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

The Department of Surgery is achieving distinguished results, including the acquisition of Class 1 in the breast cancer appropriateness evaluation by Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service in 2019. The Department of Surgery is implementing surgical treatments against advanced thyroid and breast cancer.
